Between fen and mountains

Dungeness - no more fishing

I fulfilled a promise made to Mrs TT and we went to Dungeness ostensibly to see the garden of the late film director, Derek Jarman (see extra). Dungeness is the only place in the UK officially designated a desert. It is bleak, windy and cold but great for photography. The huge expense of shingle, the derelict fishing sheds and boats, the lighthouses, the nuclear power station and the small artist colony that seems to exist there all make it a fascinating place. In the afternoon we went on to Rye which is pretty in a chocolate box sort of way but I preferred Dungeness. I got an invite to ring at the cathedral so that is where I will go tonight.
