I had heard about this book but had not seen it until this afternoon when Cathleen and I dropped into Waterstones in Oban as we had half an hour to spare on our way to Mull.

There was a pile of them on the main "Scottish books" table and the subject is nurses in the Hebrides in the 20th century .

The individual on the front weighing a bouncy baby is Cathleen's Aunt Catriona, who was born on North Uist and worked there as a district nurse and midwife before her marriage to Edinburgh policeman Richard Prentice.

They are now retired of course and living in Lewiston by Loch Ness.
