Day 14

Set off through the mountains, stunning scenery, snow everywhere!  Really glorious – so much snow but bright blue skies and sunshine too.  Kept stopping to watch the deer on the hill sides.  Headed up to Altnamara and Tongue.  Some lovely spots where you could quite envisage yourself living . . . !
Superb beaches up on the north coast, lovely to have a chance to see them again and Tongue is a super place.  Lunch at the end of the Kyle of Tongue causeway.  What a spot!  Superb views and we sat in the sun and made the most of it!
On to Bettyhill and the museum in the church, which is concerned mainly with the clearances.  It wasn’t really open but cleaning and preparation for the new season was underway and we were allowed in.  Excellent exhibitions, fascinating place and another one well worth a visit.  The yarn made from human hair had me speechless!  The curator, Rosemary, was lovely and deserves a medal for her hard work in the freezing temperatures!

As we are heading home tomorrow, Mike decided we should head for a favourite spot of his, the harbour at Latheron Wheel, for our last night.  An excellent choice, lovely walks, a little bridge, a river, a ruined house, cliffs and a beach, perfect in every way!
