Being European

Burns Monument

Modelled on the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates, Athens.

I joined the march in Edinburgh today, celebrating 60 years of the European Union, gathering in support of Scotland's right to choose to remain part of that Union, and in solidarity with others wishing also to remain.

The Burns monument is on the steep southern slope of Calton Hill with the fiercely contested Royal High School building, the Observatory, the National Monument and the Nelson Monument hill above it.

Below it is the Parliament building designed by Enrique Miralles.

A very European spot. A very European day.
