Puffins

on Craigleith island in the Firth of Forth.  We spent a lovely sunny day on the island clearing tree mallow ready for when the puffins start going back to their burrows.  Much to our surprise there were hundreds of puffins in the sea around the island and on it, checking their burrows out. It's very early in the season for them to be here.  Later in the afternoon, however, they had all disappeared, presumably further out to sea.

PS that's tree mallow in the foreground. But it's no longer there as we blitzed that spot.
