The Herald

I had a surprise visitor to my moth trap last night......a really beautiful Herald moth Scoliopteryx libatrix.
According to UK moths 'this colourful moth overwinters as an adult, and as a result can be one of the last species to be seen in one year , and one of the first in the next', which explains why it came to my trap so early in the year.
The moth is attracted to light and fairly common throughout Britain. Win/win I think!
