Cramond Island

Cut off at high tide but worth a visit at low tide. The Cramond Gallery Bistro serves a decent bacon sandwich to fortify you for the mile walk to the island. These concrete pylons - bit like jagged teeth - were constructed as a submarine defence boom during the Second Workd War. Tide comes in quickly and this can only be walked 2 hours either side of low tide. The island is in the estuary of the River Almond and you can see the 3 bridges from Drum Sands here.Extra photos today
