Sad day

We went to say goodbye to Esme the Emu today which was so so sad. She was hatched with one leg slightly twisted. The vet tied her legs when she was very young and the problem seemed to right itself. Sadly last week she started having trouble walking which steadily got worse. Today she was unable to stand and became very distressed. Apparently, Nothing can be done to help an Emu if it is lame. The vet specialises in birds and had warned us that this could happen. Ringo and Strawberry have sat with her all day. They are two weeks younger and had all bonded beautifully. The children were of course very sad.

The two geese were watching from a distance. If you look closely you can see her teeth as she was hissing at us to stay away from her eggs. We didn't know that geese had teeth!
