Museo Carmen Thyssen

I went with friends on a guided tour of the Thyssen art gallery in Malaga, which put our Spanish language skills to the test.

The tour was entirely in Spanish and it was a big boost to the confidence to be able to understand about 90 per cent of what was said.

This is our excellent guide explaining José Navarro Llorens's 1894 painting Amenaza de naufragio. The title means 'threat of a shipwreck'.

I love the paintings in this gallery, which are all by Spanish artists. One favourite was a work showing a fountain in a rural setting. This fountain still exists and is one block away from the apartment where I am staying in central Malaga, surrounded today by flats and busy streets. I plan to visit it and blip it on Saturday.
