Beacon on the Breakwater

You cannot create experience. You must undergo it.

Two friends & I underwent more experience today! We paddled from Cass Bay out to Livingstone Bay, on Lyttelton Harbour, to try our hand at going through the tunnel cave again. It was quite a decent paddle to get out there, only to find that the swell was so high that we risked getting plastered on the ceiling of the cave! So, sensible us, we just gawped and left .....
and went back to Gollans Bay for a cuppa - as we do!

Not bad conditions today; we've been lucky lately. A huge container ship, escorted by a pilot vessel plus two tugs, came into the harbour, so we hastily pulled our kayaks further up the beach, out of the reach of any grasping wake.

This image was taken right at the end of the breakwater by Cashin Quay, where the container ship eventually tied up. The shags just love to hang out there. Just for the record, we keep a sharp eye out for any other crafts on the water, and give way to everything that moves. Technically they should give way to us, seeing we're totally unpowered, but in reality it's best we don't tempt fate! - that'd only get us some more experience.  LOL
