Flying

I love jetting off to somewhere new. Not necessarily with Ryanair but any airline, anytime, any place will do really.
Spain is one of my favourite countries to visit. It is a combination of the weather, the people, the language, the food, the art and culture. Every area is different. I've visited Catalonia, the Basque country, the Costa Verde, each of the Balearics, Madrid, Andalucia, Tenerife, and now Galicia. I think I've visited Spain 12 times.
The extras are a selection from our first day in Vigo today. There is a huge festival on this weekend, which celebrates the reconquest of Vigo from Napoleon in 1809. Its a really big event and the city is heaving. The atmosphere is similar to Edinburgh during the Fringe festival. We have tried some local dishes including Galician pulpo a la galengia (octopus with potatoes done in paprika) and the street food staple choripan (sausage-bread).

There are literally hundreds of street performers dressed in traditional costume, dancing or playing 'gaita' which are Galician bagpipes. There are also re-enactments of the battles to look out for, with soldiers in full uniform.

The statue I am photographed with is of Jules Verne, who wrote about Vigo in 20000 Leagues Under the Sea. It is a magnificent sculpture of him sitting atop a tangle of octopus tentacles.
