The Priory Church - Bolton Abbey

This morning we visited Bolton Abbey and were delighted by the lovely ruins and grounds alongside the River Wharf. However my blip comes from the interior of the Priory Church of St. Mary and St. Cuthbert which is the part of the abbey which was restored in Victorian times. What struck me was the paintings on the east wall behind the high altar. At first I thought they were tapestries. These wall paintings were completed in 1880 by a local artist, Thomas Bottomley. The five Madonna lilies represent the Virgin Mary.
