horns of wilmington's cow

Hare today....

A day spent in the company of hares is never a bad thing.

I'd had plans today to be up early and get out on the bike, but despite waking at the allotted time, my dodgy knee and dodgy elbow were both feeling the effects of yesterday's gardening, so discretion and all that kind of thing. Probably did me some good to have a little extra sleep than usual.

Still managed to write some wildlife stuff for the park group before breakfast, and with the sun shining it was off to Woodhall Dean in the ever-vain hope of spotting some adders. Once more empty-handed. There are, however, a few spots to look out for hares and.... empty-handed...

We actually saw this lot (four together at one point) in a big field beside a main-ish road, after we'd left Woodhall Dean and taken the hilly back roads (we were out in the little Mini and I need no excuse) to loop back to Edinburgh. Turning round as soon as possible, they were still there, and only lolloped a short distance away as I reversed into the open entrance to the field. Despite being unmistakeable bright orange, the car served as a great hide, Mel from inside, me out and behind. They were always a little distance away, but close enough that crops such as the extra still have a bit of detail. But I just liked the shot of three in a line for the main.

Car cleaned; grass cut; beer now being consumed as the birds make the most of the evening sun and the chickens wander about content to be out. Does it really have to be Monday tomorrow?
