Binnend

I was seeking more dereliction today so went to search out an old abandoned village behind Burntisland.

'Binnend is an abandoned industrial village near Burntisland in Fife. It was established in the early 1880s to house workers at the nearby shale oil extraction works. Production was short-lived, however, and the mines closed in 1894.' (Wikipedia)

'During the 1880s the shale oil works thrived and then went into a steep decline. Very little work was done after 1892, and the mines were closed in 1894. By then many people had left, but the village continued to be occupied until the last resident departed in 1954.'

There are some interesting facts on that last referenced website.

Two more views included as 'extras'.
The tall mast seen in one of them is the Craigkelly TV Transmitter.
