Alpine Willowherb

Epilobium fleischeri, the alpine counterpart of our native Rosebay Willowherb, currently running to fluffy seed across the country.

The alpine species grows to around 30cm tall with the relatively large flowers, which typify many alpine plants. Easy to raise from seed, although a perennial it will flower in its first season and makes a welcome splash of colour at the end of the summer.

As with many of my alpine plants it brings back memories, this time of hiking high above Zermatt :)
