Mono Monday - Inside ...

..the Columbarium of Newcastle Christchurch Cathedral.  I learned what a Columbarium was tonight.  And this is one.  Wiki says:  A columbarium is a place for the respectful and usually public storage of cinerary urns (i.e., urns holding a deceased's cremated remains). The term comes from the Latin columba (dove) and originally referred to compartmentalized housing for doves and pigeons called a dovecote.  How interesting.

I also found out that the Cathedral grounds contain the first cemetery in the Newcastle area dating from around 1817 with the last known burial in 1884.  the Columbarium was a positively modern day addition being built in 1955.  The extra is a few of the remaining tomb stones in the lower part of the Cathedral grounds showing the view out to sea as the Cathedral is set high on a hill in an area of Newie called The Hill.  (We are plain speakers here and call a hill a hill).

Thanks to Nickimags888 for hosting Mono Monday this month.
