Bugs life

I cut some overhanging branches on our Arcacia Tree 2 days ago and it has a lot of these brown balls that look between a nest and a cone. These are a blemish on the tree. I picked one up to photograph and it had an Earwig inside one of the craters, so I got a wee stick to move him so I could take his photo but he decided not to stay. As I was focusing all I could see were these tiny little bugs through the veiwfinder.
