An Avid Lensman

Fishy Eyed Shadows...

...at "The Cathedral of North West Hampshire" - a church that is never open, unless you attend a service on Sunday.

Or, as I found out, half a day on Wednesdays, or half a day on Saturday.

Dominating Andover is the wonderful tower of St Mary's Church and they had just had a service, for schools and so, with permission,  I rushed inside getting a few photos, including some nice creative fisheyes.

Bright and clean, with the sun pouring in, it looked great, with some nice patterns generated by the wide lenses, so much, before I was ushered out so they could close up completely for a few more days, they said they wanted to use what I had taken for their own uses, which I am happy to provide, for free, of course.

But I will argue that closing up such a prominent building for 99% of the time just creates a 'us and them' feeling and attitude. Vandalism always increases if ordinary folk feel excluded and decreases if they feel included.

Not that every teenager will want to of course, or won't stop being antisocial but opening doors more and having a couple of volunteers inside helps tourism and the overall reputation of the town as a nice place to visit as well as the possibility of raising some always needed extra cash through donations.
