Recycle - you have no choice.......

We've been recycling as much as we are able to since before eldest was born.

I'm a bit obsessive about it at times and even peel the paper labels off cans before crushing them and recycle the paper separately.

Recently, Fife council decided that in our area, we were to recycle more and landfill less and have swapped our bins around to give us a much smaller landfill bin and a larger paper bin (blue paper bin is now landfill and grey landfill is now for paper). This has caused much concern among most people as their normal landfill bins were too small with only fortnightly emptying so the change to a smaller bin for landfill is quite a big thing to get our heads around.

Even with the as-much-as-possible recycling we did before, it is a concern for us too, but at least the documentation that the council gave out for this change has removed their previous restriction on what can be recycled in the recyclates bin we gained.

The image above is the result of about 4 weeks worth of plastics and tins. It's full! There was a bit of a clear out of cupboards which had "useful" tubs and containers saved in them (margarine tubs etc), so that has most likely bulked up the contents, but the fact that it's full after only 4 weeks is of concern. Do we really need to use so very much??? Hmmm. Much more re-use is going to have to happen, I think.
