Butterbur

Most days, on the way to the nature reserve, I drive past a low-lying area with old ditches. One stretch, right next to the road, has the only colony of butterbur I know locally. Today the flower spikes were prominent, like decorated Christmas trees. On closer inspection, I realised they were all female flowers and I couldn't spot any male flowers. There must be some nearby...I assume...but you have to be careful with gender politics these days!
