Goodbye Rusty!

Today Claire drove back up to Umeå with Rusty but while she was visiting in town we took the dog out for his last walk of this trip.  In the blip Jan is kicking snow into the air and Rusty is trying to catch the bits. He is very enthusiastic!  We saw that (over) enthusiasm in action later in the walk too.
As we neared home we saw five roe deer, scared by a car, running across the fields towards us. They only realised their mistake when Rusty (ignoring our shouts) took off towards them at high speed. Four of five veered to our right and the one at the back veered to our left and Rusty chased that one. The deer went past moving very fast, every 4 or 5 strides doing a leap high into the air. Rusty was losing ground but ran on hopefully, and the two disappeared into some trees.
Claire had assured us that in such a situation Rusty soon gave up but even so it was a relief when he appeared out of the far side of the wood a few moments later, heading for me and looking very happy.
I hope the deer reunited into one herd later. In a forest with wolves, bears, and lynx, they are probably used to being chased.
Shortly afterwards we waved goodbye to Claire and Rusty. It's fun having a dog but it is nice to have the house to ourselves again.
Jan (HarlingDarling) has her own take on the day here.
