This is . . .
We took the two older girls to Killhope Lead Mining Museum, where they worked as washer boys, searched for minerals, broke open rocks to see what was inside and explored the working waterwheel. They donned wellies, hard hats and lamps and went down into the mine. They emerged wet and cold, but hot chocolate and soup sorted that and they were soon eager to go searching again. They came home with collections of minerals that they sorted and displayed. A super day. And perfect for the seven year old who has developed an interest in rocks and is building up a collection of her own.
Here they are looking for Galena, encouraged by a wonderful expert who helped and advised. The staff at Killhope are very good indeed. We were very impressed.
