Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Easter Sunday in Newburgh-on-Ythan

Three views of village life.

The main event. Graham, our constant gardener, was busy giving a liquid feed to the Polyanthus in one of our community flower beds.

The first extra. Animal, vegetable or mineral? Well, all three. What looks like dried up seaweed is in fact a bryozoan, a colonial marine invertebrate. The green bits are vegetable, marine algae growing on the surface of the pebbles, the mineral element.

The second extra. Across the river a clutch of ornithologists were setting up a cannon net in the hope of later on catching and ringing a flock of eider ducks.
