Alexanders being pillaged

Alexanders are the first of the parsley family to appear at this time of the year -  natives of Macedonia (the country of Alexander the Great) all parts of them are edible.  Culpeper listed uses which included curing flatulence and snakebite.  The leaves can be cooked in white sauce, the young stems eaten like asparagus, the flower-buds used in salads and the roots cooked like parsnips.
