Happy Easter!

I think we are all wearying of the rain. It was back today...dreich and dismal. Tim and Joni and the littles opted to stay home because they didn't want to drive up in the rain. Will didn't come home from school since he already had his spring break, so it was just five of us...Jim, Dana and Peter, OilMan and me.

Peter had just gotten his SAT (college board exam) scores back on Thursday and got a very good score, so the Easter Bunny hid three special eggs with money in them outside. Peter has many talents, but searching for hidden Easter eggs, even ones with money in them, isn't one of them. The rain and the cold didn't encourage any of us to stand outside and 'egg' him on. I captured this shot after he found the first one....

At some point during the very laid back festivities consisting mostly of watching baskeball playoffs, it occurred to us that it was Ozzie's birthday. He was born on Easter Sunday 2006. A quick google search revealed that Easter that year was on April 16th. I've included a picture of Ozzie with his repurposed Easter present in the extras. Dana brought it over last night and said it was not to go into the communal toy box because everything else in there has been eviscerated by her dogs in search of the squeakers inside. She brought over a whole new batch for them, but by the time they left, they were all eviscerated too...

We had spiral sliced ham brought by Jim, something I made, improbably called Rumbledethump, "a Scottish Borders version of 'bubble and squeak'" , which was very good although I never recall having had anything like it in Scotland. Asparagus with a quick and dirty version of hollandaise sauce rounded out a pleasant meal accompanied by a very nice Red Car rosé.

After the meal we sat around the living room talking about how it felt like bedtime...a glance at the kitchen cook informed us that it was just after 5pm! I don't know why we always feel it is more festive to eat holiday meals at an odd time, but when dinner is at 4pm then it should be time to go to bed at seven!
