Wimborne Minster, Beaufort tomb (mid-15th century)

The effigies are of John Beaufort (1403-1444), First Duke of Somerset, and his Duchess Margaret (ca.1410-1482).  The tomb-chest is in Purbeck stone and the two effigies are in alabaster; the couple are depicted as holding hands.

The couple's daughter, Lady Margaret Beaufort (1441-1509), married Edmund Tudor.  Their son Henry won his crown from King Richard III at Bosworth, and he ruled as King Henry VII from 1485 until death in 1509.

Henry VII's son Henry VIII succeeded him on the throne.
