Sweetness

My parents keep packets of biscuits in the glove box of their car, so that they are always prepared when they go out. They buy the biscuits in bulk and keep replenishing the glove box from a stock they keep at home. Instead of giving money to beggars at traffic junctions, many of whom tend to be bedraggled young children and women, my folks give them packets of these glucose biscuits, hoping to fill at least in part their underfed bellies.

It has become illegal in India to give money to beggars though there are many desperately poor and impoverished people in this country.
Sadly even if one is willing to defy the law, begging syndicates operate throughout the country and 'beggar masters' take the money from those who are out on the streets begging and actually need it most.
