Beautiful Spring morning.

Walk in our nearby National Nature Reserve Gait Barrows. Went to see how the Lady's Slipper Orchids are growing.

Then I came across this nest of Southern Wood Ants ( Formica rufa). These are mainly found in the south of the country and we are lucky to have them here.
At this time of year they are busy, busy in all the hours of daylight collecting materials to build their very large nests.
Careful where you put your feet.
