The Rising Sun at Cotmans Ash

This must be the most unique pub in the south east. No food, 7 puppies in a pen in the main bar, eggs on counter from hens in garden and a lovely landlady who sits outside chatting to her customers wearing her bedroom slippers. It's a real ale pub but only had one guest beer on sale, in fact there was only one beer available - brewed in Whitstable with German hops, called Hull Melon. Ian enjoyed his pint and with my half cider both only coming to £5 made it even more pleasurable.

The Rising Sun is very isolated and we reached it by climbing the hill on the North Downs at Kemsing, walking through woods carpeted with bluebells, across fields and over stiles. The pub is a welcome stopping off point. The garden is lovely and ramblers are welcome to picnic at the tables.

The building is very old with flint walls and decaying woodwork on the windows. The inside is dark and dingy and cluttered with dusty memorabilia. But what a wonderful pub. Let's hope it continues to be one in the years to come.
