Thank You For the Days ..

More Ruins

TM and I are on a mini-holiday. So mini that we've travelled all day, and are still on the same page of the road map.

There was no plan, other than to get to Dumfries, where we're staying for a couple of nights.

It was a fantastic day, weatherwise. Strong sun, brilliant clear light. We don't often get that, and the pictures I took around mid-day were a huge disappointment. We were in the Memorial Garden at Lockerbie, the white cherry trees were in blossom, and it was stunning, very moving. I wish I could go back and take those shots again.

Next stop was Caerlaverock Castle, and that's above. I'm beginning to realise that we have an awful lot of ruins in this part of the world.

The original building was besieged in the Wars of Independence . After the Union with England, the Maxwells  thought the troubles were over and built a  new wing, 'that dainty fabric'.  Twenty years later another war started, religion at the root of this one, another siege. After that, they gave up.

Tomorrow may include another ruin. It's hard to avoid them.
