After the snow

A day of amazing weather, starting very gently with soft, wet, fluffy flakes drifting from the skies.  Not a breath of wind, not even very cold.  By 10am, when I had to drive to J's for a meeting, the hills were white!  Horizontal blizzards of thick, crisp snow, piling up at the sides of the car windscreen.  The ewes were all lying with their backs to the weather, with their baby lambs snuggled under their chins.

Early afternoon and it is sunny and bright.  Flat calm and the sea like a mill pond, the only remaining snow is on the hills of Hoy and Orphir.  On with the boots and off to plant the tatties, the horticultural equivalent of striking while the iron is hot!
