the bells...

of Aberdyfi....

there are many versions of the same story that explains how the prosperous land just off Aberdyfi came to be claimed by the sea....

One night around 600 AD, a storm blew up from the south west driving the spring tide against the seawalls.
The watchman Seithennin, a heavy drinker, was attending a party in the King's palace in Aberystwyth. Some say he fell asleep and did not notice the storm and to shut the sluices.
The land of Cartrell was flooded and 16 villages were submerged...
The king and some of his court managed to escape by running to safety...this is one version only...but it is said that if you listen closely you can hear the bells of the lost city cry out from under the sea.....especially on a quiet sunday morning....

Aberdyfi's time and tide bell was installed in 2011. It is iss reference to this old old story....

after a lovely breakfast i had a long walk along the beech, and part of the village...in the extras some pictures beech, the village and a pelican mad of driftwood i bought in the art gallery as momentum to my first solo holiday
