While walking along Yellowcraigs beach today I noticed thousands of these coiled worm casts made by lugworms. Usually they lie about 40 cms below the surface in a U shaped burrow in the lower reaches of the beach. They are an important food source for birds such as curlew and godwits and other sea birds.
