Day 3 - Delivery Day

No work on the roof but Stefan here for day 2 of his electrical work including setting up our Mercedes Benz car battery. Seemingly the free of charge Mercedes electric car will be delivered when on stock again!

Stefan was recommended to us by the roofer who has worked with him before. Stefan has done a great job in getting a quote done (just-in-time) and is trying to get everything prepared downstairs before the roof is ready to get the PV panels.

We went for him rather than for one of the major PV specialists as he has the interest, knowledge and pride to do a good job on overhauling our entire electrical system.

The days of PV systems being big money makers are long gone. The original government guarantees of 15 odd years ago which gave (and still does) people with PV over 0.50€/Kw they produced are long gone. Due to the huge over capacity of PV generated electricity in these parts, the guarantee has been reduced now tp around 0.13€ but one has to pay about 0.30€ for it from the electricity provider. While originally one was forced to put all the electricity in to the net, nowadays one is allowed to use one's own and only "sell" the overcapacity. Thus we are also having a battery installed which should allow us to become largely totally independent from having to buy electricity.

Need to change our habits a bit but hopefully with a few adaptations and putting in new equipment such as an electric immersion heater in our hot water tank, we might see the whole thing at least being a break even affair and hopefully another step to help our environment.

But we will probably stock up on candles and firewood.
