Abercrombie House - widwed

We were on Ophir Road west of Bathurst, taking 'the road less travelled', when we saw this.  A closer look revealed that it was open to the public and we spent a very interesting couple of hours exploring the property.  The land (10,000 acres) was granted to a NSW lieutenant governor in colonial times.  His son built this house and lived in the grand style as landlord of tenant farmers. His family owned it but increasingly struggled to maintain it until the present owner bought Abercrombie House in 1969.  He still lives on the property while his sons and extended family engage in an ongoing restoration project, funded by tours, special events and an antique shop.
