Art Deco

Art Deco is a wonderfully extravagant architectural style characterised by a dependence on a range of easily appreciated motifs and ornamentations. Slightly moody but also manic, quite refined but also suggestive and perhaps a reaction to the austerity of the First War to End All Wars, the extravagance and lavishness of the genre is seen all over Europe and the USA.
The Steamship Queen Mary, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and cinemas throughout the UK and beyond, such as The Picture House in Cambletown, all are examples of the genre.
Stonehaven has two surviving Art Deco buildings in use to this very day. One an open air heated salt water swimming pool and the second an absolute gem of a restaurant serving perhaps the best seafood in NE Scotland.
The Crab Soup is to die for!
