A concrete love affair

Dunelm House & Kingsgate Footbridge

DAY ONE of Scotland Trip...

Picked Ian up after his late night return from Hungary. He was a bit tired but looking forward to heading north...

First stop was Markham Moor Services and then on a direct drive to Durham City, and Dunelm House to see this concrete brutalism before its fate is decided. For me the highlight was Kingsgate Footbridge, an elegant concrete structure high above the River Wear.

Next stop my beloved Newcastle Upon Tyne and its beautiful bridges.. Having took a wander around the Quayside we ended up in a pub with a view of the Tyne Bridge. Got chatting to a couple who loved bridges and we told them about our trip and expressed our mutual love of bridges. It was a classic Geordie conversation, all very canny. Plenty of craft beer and the Toon was out celebrating St Georges day.
