One block back from the beach front......
Today's photo shows a 'palmero'.....a man cutting the palm fronds, in the traditional way....
....shimmying up the trunk, using grips on his shoes, and a rope around his waist and cutting the tree with very sharp hand tools.....
Increasingly, the palms are being trimmed by teams of men, using hydraulic platforms to lift them up to the correct height.....but this chap climbed up ...
....many people say that the traditional method gives better results, but of course, needs more skills....and is more probably more expensive.
