Kaiteriteri, Top of the South Island

We arrived at Kaiteriteri in the dark last night, so it was nice to go for a wee walk of the camp ground this afternoon and explore our surroundings.

It turning out a perfect day, and the autumn colours looked beautiful against the magnificently blue sky. We walked into Kaiteriteri (about a 15 minute walk along the estuary) and had lunch at the cafe, which overlooks the beach.

On the way home, we detoured off the main track and took a bush walk up behind Kaiteriteri. It was lovely listening to the native birds along the way.

Just after tea our van starting shaking and we experienced our first earthquake in the van - magnitude 4.5 centred in Blenheim, two hours away. Luckily there weren't any other quakes during the night!
