Morning walk

Two happy dogs, Sammy (female) and Bertie, posing beautifully on a section of the West Highland Way near the village of Killearn.

If you were walking the WHW, starting in Milngavie on the outskirts of Glasgow, you'd be about three quarters of the way to Drymen, which most people consider the first leg of the 96-mile trek.

On the outward part of our walk I noticed a little table that had been placed under a tree, and on the table was a variety of food and drinks, some information about a fund-raising effort by a local girl, and an honesty box.

On the way back there was a woman restocking the tupperware boxes, flasks, etc and she explained that this was an attempt by her 17-year-old daughter to raise funds for her forthcoming gap year with the Project Trust, during which she will spend her time teaching in a school in Chile and living with a host family.

I commend the girl for her initiative and will make a point of walking the dogs that way again, next time with some money in my pocket!
