Oban Community Garden

Some years ago several gardens in the area were asked to donate plants for a Community Garden to celebrate the Millennium, which was to be planted beside Atlantis Leisure. Arduaine gave a number of mature shrubs.

The garden sits between two childrens' play parks and is treated rather like one! This picture shows everything looking rosy, or should I say rhododendrony, but it's actually rather a mess, with rocks strewn everywhere, plants trampled by kids running through the garden in all directions and shrubs pruned by people who know nothing about gardening.

I've been asked to suggest ways in which it could be developed, maintained and protected, so I have another job on my hands! The most difficult thing of all is discovering ways of preventing it being trashed, as it's there for everyone to enjoy, not just children. Unfortunately older kids come in later on at night and break branches, pull trees out and leave cans and bottles all over the place - same old story! So watch this space!
