proud as punch..

...he really is!
Meet Alan a member of the WA Chrysanthemum Society ready for the big gig of the year happening this week -the State Championships.

This amazing display (extra) of cascading 'mums' features the tiny to the pompom flowers and proudly on show at Mum's local shopping centre.
According to Alan (who had exhibits but was being very coy about which ones they were) the trick is to take a cutting in September and nurture them to floral fabulousness just in time for Mother's Day

The 'chrysie/mum' have varying cultural significance and symbolism around the world.
In parts of Europe are used only on graves or at funeral but in Japan "the Festival of Happiness' celebrates the flower.
And of course it is the 'Pyrethrum Daisy' a natural insecticide and mossie repellent.
Here is Aus this is their flowering season and having 'mum' in the name makes them a perfect choice as a Mother's Day flower (extra).

Now that is multi tasking!
