WILD HORSES: FREE TO ROAM

SAND WASH BASIN
158,000 acres of semi-arid land.
With gently rolling hills and low bluffs.
Dotted with sagebrush and rabbit bush.

Rough gravel roads transported us through 'horse land'.
Our 4-wheel drive, necessary for just a few of the washes.

This morning we saw maybe 20 of the 'wild ones'.
One bachelor, plus families in various sized bands.
They aren't exactly stationed around every bend.

Some of the 20, were simply dark moving spots.
A binocular's distance away.

The best way to find these beauties was to,
Watch for large mounds of fresh road apples.

A semi-rough spur road led us to this young one.
Traveling with a band of six.

What an opportunity to actually see wild horses. Like a glimpse into a past world.

I don't ever want to take seeing these treasures for granted.
