The Brenchley

This beautiful glass dome ceiling can be found in The Brenchley pub, Maidstone where I met friends for drinks today.

The Grade II listed building was designed by Frederick Charles Palmer (architect to the National Provincial Bank) and built in 1927 as the home of NatWest & Kentish Bank.

The name Brenchley has a long standing history in Maidstone, including the formation of the Kentish Bank, Maidstone Breweries, building of Maidstone Alms Houses, Maidstone mayors, benefactor to West Kent General Hospital and the famous 19th century explorer, naturalist and author, Julius Lucius Brenchley.

So much history in this town that I am yet to discover...
