Day 7: South Harris to West Harris to North Harris

I had the biggest, fruitiest, honeyiest bowl of porridge courtesy of Paula at Sorrel Cottage this morning and a good job too. We didn't hang about to get ahead of the forecast weather front as far as possible.

Thankfully the promised heavy rain did not materialise till we reached Tarbert but the wind began freshening as we headed towards the first of the Harris Hills. Not a good day for stopping and taking photographs, but we still passed glorious sandy beaches which reminded us both of a picture which Jenny painted for her dad several years ago.

After Seilbost we were cycling into a strengthening wind as we climbed above Luskentyre, here blipped and sadly overcast. We had expected a hill but this one went on forever, well for several miles upwards! Every time we went around a bend there was another incline and our legs were burning by the time we stopped at the top - and the wind died too!

The good thing about cycling up is you get to cycle down so then it was a long descent in to Tarbert where we found a tearoom with yummy cakes, and also caught up with the Sheffield couple I chatted to on yesterday's ferry who passed us in their camper van on the way down.

We are now in the Harris Hotel having made long use of the bath!
