The Wren

A rare visitor

Great excitement today as I managed to get a good shot of two Common Redpolls who seemed to have been blown in by the recent strong Easterly winds. I have had their ID verified by a Scottish Bird Society as I originally thought they were more likely to be Lesser Redpolls, who are known to frequent Scotland, but apparently double white stripes down their back (noticeable in another photo I took) confirmed their ID as the more unusual Common Redpoll who rarely visit these shores being apparently more of a Scandinavian or Arctic bird. They are certainly very colourful and seem to adore the nyger seed which is clinging to the bottom of the feeder as a result of some much needed torrential rain.
