Wounded

All about "bichos"(bugs and beasties) today. Set off with the dogs this morning, plus last night's visitor in its plastic box. It was released well up the hill, on a retaining wall between the road and a long drop caused by a landslide during the 2011 floods. It's separated from the road by a barbed wire fence. easy for me to step over and the dogs to squeeze through or under, but hopefully the spider is now far enough from habitations and normal dog hunting grounds not to present a problem. After trying for some better photos, unsuccessfully as it the lichen formed such a perfect  camouflage, I gently nudged it over to the far side and we galloped off back down the hill.
Sorting papers again for the rest of the day till it was time to pack up and head back down to Rio, dropping in on our invalid friend on the way. She has a highly problematic daughter, who's there causing chaos at the moment, but at least her youngest grandson was there with her, and somehow he has turned out to be both kind and charming. Too bad he returns to his father's house in the neighbouring state tomorrow.
Just before we left home, I saw this butterfly on the lawn. No sign of movement and I thought it was dead, but when I came back with the camera, it moved its wings, one of which had a big chunk missing (in the photo, the colours of the wing top show through the hole in the injured one. I lifted it onto a fern so it wouldn't be trampled by the dogs (maybe what caused the injury in the first place), so perhaps it will still manage to lay some eggs and get some sustenance before it departs this life.
