Synchronized Swimming

We were treated to an amazing sight this morning.  This group (squadron) of American White Pelicans were cooperatively herding fish.  It was so fascinating to see them swimming together, systematically working their way into the shallow water, apparently herding fish into their midst.  Then they all dipped into the water at the exact same time and all came up together with their beaks full of fish.  They ate their meal and continued on, repeating the action again and again.  They were still at it when Piper and her dad finally dragged me away.  I would probably still be sitting there ;-)  Here is a link to a video of this interesting phenomenon.  I'm so used to still photography that I never even thought of taking a video of the action.  My extra shows a nervous family of Canada Geese when the fishing party got too close for comfort.  Many thanks to Cailleach for hosting Wild Wednesdays!
