A barn near Humphries End

As it was the last day of the Stroud SITE festival when many local artists opened their studios to the public. Some are in coordinated workshops for groups of artists, but we chose to visit an artist in her home studio.

Jackie Garner specialises in wildlife painting, often of birds, mostly using arcylic paints. She lives in a converted outbuilding overlooking the old farmyard and its farmhouse, called the Old Cider House Studio.

My picture isn't of Jackie's studio, but it is also nearby. This is a modern conversion of a barn and these 'homes' can be seen all around the rural areas where farming practices have changed completely, with farm workers mostly being replaced by machines and much less diverse agricutltural practices. Modern tractors don't seem to suit these old buildings. The other side of the barn lies next to the old local lane which runs down to the bridge over the Ruscombe Brook.
