Castell Henllys

recreates an iron-age Celtic hillfort settlement. This sort of building (see the extra) has fascinated me from my first memories, because my Dad used to seek out their remains in quiet parts of Westmorland. Often all that you could find was the post-holes, sometimes the midden, some fragments of pots. If you were lucky, a few tools of iron, bone or stone.

This reconstruction was an utter delight, on a sunny day, with a bus full of 7 year olds from Port Talbot getting ready to grind their corn on the quernstone, and weave some wattle walls and apply the daub.
